Walking on Water

- as seen by -

Justin Schmidt Justin Schmidt

I was sitting on a wooden bridge that overlooks some wetlands in Poughkeepsie, New York waiting patiently for anything to pass. Out of nowhere a spider literally fell from the sky onto the water right in front of me.

It had no problem walking on water and slowly made its way toward land giving me the opportunity to photograph it in the process of its travels.

There is plenty of wildlife to photograph in the area. Beaver, mink, ducks, heron, belted kingfishers, song birds – and I’ve even seen a bobcat there. I’m glad that Vasser Farm and Ecological Preserve is working to protect the green space for all creatures big and small including the little spider (above).

EDITOR’S NOTE: This photo was chosen as one of the top submissions for Wild View’s Make a Splash.
