Quiet Moments

I love animals and often look for quiet moments to spend with them as opposed to catching them in action.

The day was overcast with on and off drizzle and extreme cold at WCS’s Bronx Zoo – just the situation I was looking for. It was perfect for taking pictures of animals that enjoy the brisk weather like this snow leopard (Panthera uncia).

The climate made for a challenging photography situation. It was a bit gray, so I set my camera’s ISO (sensitivity to light) to 4000, my shutter speed was 1/320th of a second, and aperture at f8 to capture this big cat’s mood.

EDITOR’S NOTE: October 23 is International Snow Leopard Day. It is dedicated to saving these rare wild cats.

Lindsay…fabulous image of the most beautiful cat in the world. I visit the zoo several times a year just to photograph them.

I attended the class about the snow leopards at the Bronx Zoo WCS. Fantastic leopards! The adults seem to like their keepers, while the babies hiss at humans, just as house cats do. If you haven’t taken a Bronx Zoo class you should! Great way to learn about these magnificent animals.
