Brilliantly Colored Bird

Probably one of the most brilliantly colored birds in Africa, if not the world, this lilac-breasted roller, Coracias caudatus, was hunkered down and fluffed up in the early dawn hours at Kruger National Park, South Africa. The light was just right to catch this stunning bird in all its glory.

These birds are aptly named after their impressive, “rolling” aerial acrobatics, performed during their courtship rituals.
