A Blissful Sip

On a summer morning, I followed this clouded sulphur butterfly (Colias sp.) through my camera’s viewfinder as it flitted from flower to flower, hoping to get a good photo. As it finally settled on an aster blossom, its proboscis became visible as it blissfully sipped nectar from this flower, like a kid with a milkshake.

Butterflies are beautiful and provide environmental benefits like pollination of plants essential to plant reproduction.

EDITOR’S NOTE: This photo was chosen as one of the top submissions for Wild View’s Summer Celebration assignment. Congratulations! Check out our current assignment Spots and Stripes.
