A Young Robin Waits

It is my daily respite to watch beautiful birds and small animals from my window in Westchester, NY.

A female robin chose a short, ornamental tree near my home to nest. Robins are wonderful and protective parents. They watch their nests carefully and scold anyone that comes too close. The nest was built among the tree’s long, sparse branches, so I was able to watch the progress of the robin’s new brood unimpeded.

In the photo, the first hatchling is anxiously awaiting its mother’s gift of a fresh, wiggly worm.

From little, powder-blue eggs to four birds squished into the nest, following the little robin family was a wonderful gift that I will always treasure.
