Jonathan C. Slaght, Ph.D., is the Regional Director of the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Temperate Asia Program, with oversight of programs in Russia, China, Mongolia, and Afghanistan, and projects in Central Asia. His writing credits include 2020’s “Owls of the Eastern Ice,” which was longlisted for a National Book Award, and an annotated translation of a Russian natural history classic by Vladimir Arsenyev called “Across the Ussuri Kray.” His other writings have appeared in The New York Times, Scientific American, Audubon Magazine and, of course, WCS Wild View. He is currently working on a new book about Amur tiger conservation in Russia titled “Tigers Between Empires.”
