Growing Up on the Hudson Line
- as seen by -
Amanda SocorroLiving in a town along the Hudson River in New York, I’ve been very fortunate to witness the return of bald eagles (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) to the area.
On this particular day, there were eagles everywhere. Some perched in the bare trees, some floated along the river on patches of ice. I found this immature bald eagle sitting peacefully atop a railway bridge. The bird appeared to be taking in the sights as it looked out over the water, watching other birds in the distance. The eagle eventually took notice of me. Unlike the adult bald eagles, this youngster was unbothered by my presence and turned its attention back to the river.
It seems that growing up on the Hudson Line has a calming effect on humans and animals alike.
