Let the Weeds Grow

- as seen by -

I have a bad habit of letting the weeds grow along the edges of my driveway. I usually pull them once I determine what they are – native plants stay, especially flowers, and the rest get cleaned up.

It was so worth it to let the goldenrod bloom because it was the one and only time I’ve been able to find and photograph a female white-banded crab spider (Misumenoides formosipes) in my yard. The female of this species can change its color from white to yellow to blend in with its surroundings.

I had no luck finding a goldenrod crab spider, so I’ll have to let the weeds grow a little more.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The photo above was chosen as the top submission for Wild View’s The Color Yellow assignment. Congratulations!
