Nature’s Magic

Peek-a-hoot! I found this adorable eastern screech-owl (Megascops asio) perfectly camouflaged in this tree cavity in New York. The comfortable tree house was likely made by a woodpecker.
The little owls, around six to 10 inches, have special feather tufts that help them blend into bark, making them nearly invisible to predators. The tufts may also be used to visually communicate with other owls.
These birds of prey are nature’s magic.
