Running along the water’s surface of the Blue Hole in the Patagonian Sea, this wandering albatross (Diomedea exulans) demonstrates its impressive wingspan and powerful movements as it gains speed for take-off.

Known for being one of the largest seabirds, the wandering albatross spends much of its life gliding over the ocean, covering vast distances with minimal effort.

The Blue Hole, a proposed National Park off the coast of Argentina, serves as an important habitat for this bird and other wildlife. The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species classifies the wandering albatross as “Vulnerable”. Protecting areas like the Blue Hole is essential not only for this species but for the entire ecosystem as it supports both seabirds and marine life crucial to maintaining biodiversity.
