Powerful Presence
- as seen by -
Melyse RamnathsinghI love getting close-up shots that highlight the beauty and intricacies of wildlife.
While visiting the Wildlife Conservation Society Bronx Zoo’s World of Reptiles, I saw this young Chinese alligator (Alligator sinensis) and immediately felt a connection unlike any other. I was drawn to the unique texture and detail of the young alligator’s skin. Its eye resembled a stone.
I wanted to capture the alligator’s powerful presence. This was my first photo of a series. I stayed for a while, admired its features, and snapped a few more shots.
EDITOR’S NOTE: The species is critically endangered, with approximately 200 animals left in the wild. WCS and the Chinese alligator SSP have been working to help reintroduce animals from breeding facilities into restored habitats in China according to Kevin Torregrosa, WCS Curator of Herpetology and SSP Coordinator for Chinese Alligators.
