The Day’s Catch

Joseph Lacroix https://joseph-lacroix.pixels.com/On a beautiful, blue sky summer day, I was sitting on the Seawall near Southwest Harbor, Maine watching a harbor seal hunt in the shallow water when suddenly, out of nowhere, this osprey (Pandion haliaetus) made a dive into the water near the seal and came up with a fish.
I was very fortunate to have the osprey give me a flyby with the day’s catch. I took a quick burst of shots as the bird of prey flew past and into the nearby tree line.
This area has an abundance of wildlife both on land and in the ocean. I go to the Seawall often to photograph not just the wildlife but the beauty of Maine’s rocky coast, rugged mountain trails, and spectacular night skies as it is one of the darkest places on the east coast of the United States.
EDITOR’S NOTE: This photo was chosen as one of the top submissions for Wild View’s Hunters in the Sky assignment. Congratulations! Check out our current assignment Spots and Stripes.
