My Studio is a Garage Floor
- as seen by -
Chris SpohnIt is the time of year when my favorite subjects begin hiding for the winter. Insects crawl away from the cold. Everything is soggy. It’s impossible to open a door without leaves blowing in and making a mess of everything. Sometimes, the foliage brings along something extra, and suddenly, I’m glad for the disarray.
A benefit for this photographer is that cold weather slows the insects down. They don’t fly away. And perhaps, more relevant to the making of this picture, it’s much harder for them to land a sting!
Since I’m photographing things so small, my studio is where I find them. It might be leaf litter, a trash can lid, a yogurt container, or aluminum siding (all things that bugs crawl across).
In this case, my studio is a garage floor.
