Red Reef-Dweller
- as seen by -
Kimberly Rollins DavisScuttling across the vibrant coral, the inch-long scarlet reef hermit crab (Paguristes cadenati) carries its algae-covered home on its back. When it outgrows this protective shell, it may don one of a different color. While this red-legged crab lives in the Spineless exhibit at the Wildlife Conservation Society’s New York Aquarium, the species originates in the Caribbean and Western Atlantic reefs.
