Treasures
- as seen by -
D McAlooseOften focused on the future, the Wildlife Conservation Society has an incredible and rich history that is captured and catalogued in its many archives. These are scattered across the organization, squirreled away in boxes in cabinets and closets, on racks and shelves. Efforts to preserve and modernize our archives and move them into secure, digital formats are ongoing. They will protect our legacy long into the future.
However, I don’t think they will ever quite capture the thrill of discovery when one opens forgotten troves, with type-written labeling and animal information from the early days of our zoos. Or the wonder of looking at original, hand-written reports with precise script on now-fragile paper from the turn of the last century.
This box is one small window into our collection composition from that bygone era.

Beautiful work. Treasures, indeed.
