A Friendly Fly

I’ve been intrigued with photographing tiny critters for several years – among them are bees and flies. This is a long-legged fly (Chrysosoma sp.) on a colorful daylily called “Apricot Punch”.
These insects are found in metallic shades of green, copper, and bronze. Most are quite small at about one quarter inch in length. The small flies are very beneficial as they eat mites, aphids, and smaller flies around gardens and meadows.
Long-legged flies are usually quite forgiving of me coming as close as six inches with my macro lens which allows me to take superbly crisp images.
