Birthday Card for the National Park Service
- as seen by -
Megan Maher and Julie LarsenHappy 100th birthday, National Park Service.
On August 25, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed the act that created the National Park Service – a system of the United States that now protects more than 400 parks and monuments. Each one has a unique story that has contributed to American history.
The Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area was added to the National Park Service in 1965. Tucked among 70,000 acres of mountains and forests in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, the region is less than two hours from New York. Waterfalls spill into streams that thread through its verdant valleys. And local wildlife stop by peaceful ponds that dot its landscape.
We crept quietly toward the muddy bank of one of them. Croaks and splashes broke the silence as several frogs scooted off upon our arrival, but this American bullfrog stayed put and posed for a perfect picture.
Congratulations, National Park Service, on your centennial celebration. We look forward to your next 100 years of caring for our natural resources.

Our National Parks are best thing about the U.S.A. Been to most of them
during my 88 years. Jackson three times.
