Picture-perfect Pigeon
- as seen by -
Andrew Van BurenI took some time off and on a spur-of-the-moment decision, I went to the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Prospect Park Zoo during the week. While many visitors focused on the big exhibits and interactives around this legendary park, I went into the Discovery Trail’s Aviary to find myself alone – or so it seemed.
I found a number of lovely birds in the Aviary including a red-knobbed imperial pigeon (Ducula rubricera), sitting high and to the left in a spot of shade among the leaves. Just as I got my camera ready, it turned and struck this picture-perfect pose.
