On an afternoon in New York City, I noticed a slight difference in the color of the stone wall outside Central Park on Fifth Avenue. Upon closer inspection, the discoloration turned out to be a very large, waved sphinx moth (Ceratomia undulosa) resting perfectly still and undetected by predators until it could move about in safety after nightfall.
