A Thing of Beauty

The rustling of leaves is the first thing I hear. Where is that sound coming from? Through the bushes, the yellow eyes of the jaguar are peering at me.

In a blink, the jaguar glides across the water, jumps gracefully from a rock, and into a tree. Her coat is covered in rosettes with small spots that set her apart from other felines. It is rare to see the third largest cat in the world that rules the rain forests of South America.

Jaguars are known for their immeasurable beauty. Their likeness has been a cultural inspiration for thousands of years representing strength and power.

It is clear to me why they have gained such recognition.

Great to see a jaguar in action. We saw none in the Amazon region of Ecuador, once a stronghold for these big cats. Only camera traps were able to get their pictures.

From a shot like this, you can really see why they’re seen to represent strength and power.
