National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence Enric Sala launched the Pristine Seas project in 2008 to explore and help save the last wild places in the ocean. The Pristine Seas team, with Sala as leader, contributed to the creation of millions of square miles of marine parks all over the world. Claudio Campagna is a researcher at the Wildlife Conservation Society with an interest in marine conservation in open ocean protected areas, animal behavior, and the environmental ethics. His work focuses on the Patagonian Sea, particularly the marine mammals of Peninsula Valdes, in Argentina. He is founder of the Forum of NGOs for the conservation of the Patagonian Sea.
