B is for Barn Owl
- as seen by -
Michelle LeppertEvery summer, Stone Zoo in Stoneham, Massachusets hosts Masters of Flight, a free-flight bird show. I lived about 20 minutes from the zoo and would regularly go to see the show and other animals including my favorites – the snow leopards and jaguars. Stone Zoo is a small zoo and visitors can do the whole zoo in about an hour. I always spent more time because I would hang out watching (and talking to) the big cats. Sadly, they never talked back.
I would go visit various animals then hang around for the morning bird show. With so many great photo opportunities, sometimes I stayed for the second show as well. I would always try for flight shots, some more successful than others. I took this photo while the barn owl was at rest and just love the way it turned out.
EDITOR’S NOTE: The photo above was chosen as the top submission for Wild View’s Beginning with B assignment. Congratulations!
