Curious Kookaburra

On my quiet weekday trip to the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Prospect Park Zoo, I wandered into one of the indoor exhibits to find the unique laughing kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae), only to discover it was hiding up high.

I waited a bit hoping this very large kingfisher would perch on a lower branch. While fiddling with settings, I glanced up to see it looking my camera and me up and down.

I couldn’t miss this opportunity to photograph an animal’s curiosity with a human.
