Blue By You
- as seen by -
Steve ZackThe first Bronx Zoo Birdathon was, by all quarters, a great success. I needed to be at the zoo for the two weeks leading up to it, as my experience with the massive East Coast migration of birds was spotty. If I pretend to be an expert, I need some expertise!
This black-throated blue warbler, resplendent in its fresh spring molt, paused long enough for me to photograph it against a pale, large tree. Most all other warblers were manically feeding and singing in the high canopy, challenging both identification and photography. This species winters in the Caribbean (I had seen it in Cuba) and in the Isthmus of Panama.
