Brown pelicans are year-round residents of Florida’s coastlines. Along this pier in Juno Beach, they fish and often wait to capture nibbles of cast-offs as fisherman haul in their catches. Perhaps this one is working on its tan alongside the throngs of tourists who flock there.

I love the side profile of this funny bird with its unique beak. Its watchful eye softened the longer I lingered as we shared a great moment of human-wildlife connection. I hope my photo will create the same feeling for others.
