Wildlife Conservation Society
Melissa “MO” Ortiz is the licensed Veterinary Technician at WCS’s Queens Zoo. She has 20 years’ experience in the veterinary field – the last seven at Queens Zoo. In addition to her daily work, she takes great pride in being an active member of both professional and community organizations. She is the President of the Association of Zoo Veterinary Technicians and has held this position for 3 consecutive years. MO has also joined the board of advisers for the Veterinary Technology program at her alma mater, LaGuardia Community College. She received the 2017 Vet Tech of the Year award and the 2015 Aspiring Leader Award by the New York State Association of Veterinary Technicians for her contributions to both the profession and NYSAVT. When MO is not working or mentoring, you can find her at an archery range where she competes on state and national levels as a traditional archer.
