Jonathan C. Slaght, Ph.D., is the Regional Director of the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Temperate Asia Program, with oversight of programs in Russia, China, Mongolia, and Afghanistan, and projects in Central Asia. His writing credits include 2020’s “Owls of the Eastern Ice,” which was longlisted for a National Book Award, and an annotated translation of a Russian natural history classic by Vladimir Arsenyev called “Across the Ussuri Kray.” His other writings have appeared in The New York Times, Scientific American, Audubon Magazine and, of course, WCS Wild View. He is currently working on a new book about Amur tiger conservation in Russia titled “Tigers Between Empires.” Dale Miquelle received a BS from Yale University, MS from the University of Minnesota, and Ph.D. from the University of Idaho. Miquelle spent a year working on the Smithsonian Tiger Ecology Project in Chitwan National Park, Nepal, and worked for six years studying wildlife in Alaska before becoming the lead researcher of the Hornocker Wildlife Institute’s Siberian Tiger Project in 1992. Since 1997 he has served as the Director for the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Russia Program, promoting big cat conservation within both Russia and China. Miquelle is now the WCS Tiger Program Coordinator, working to promote tiger conservation across Asia and the world.
