Birds
Assignment & Contest Open From
Apr 1 - May 15, 2015
“One swallow does not make a summer,” the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle famously wrote. But the arrival of that bird has long been seen as a harbinger of spring. And, in the U.S., we couldn’t be more ready for that.
So for our next assignment, we’re celebrating birds (including hamerkops, like the one pictured). Step outside with your camera and snap some feather-filled shots. Our editorial team will choose the best submissions based on appeal, composition, originality, and technical quality. A group of chosen pictures will be posted on this page and one will even be featured.
In the New York area? You can also join us on May 9 for our annual Birdathon at the Bronx Zoo, as we spot birds across our 265-acre campus. Bring your camera and take photos for the assignment.
Remember: choose your submission wisely. We can consider a maximum of two per contributor, so get us your favorite.
ENTER FOR A CHANCE TO WIN
For this assignment, we’re offering prizes as an incentive. Those who submit the top two photos, as chosen by our readers, will receive special prizes from Vanguard – Orros 8420 lightweight waterproof binoculars for the first prize winner, and the Reno 41 Backpack for the second prize winner. See the official Contest Rules.
