A Wild Ride

Giant anteaters range from southern Belize to northern Argentina and have big, bushy tails with long, tubular noses. It can take a minute to figure out which end is which. They have lush fur and tremendous claws for digging that are tucked under their feet like knuckles.

I spotted the mother but did not see her baby immediately as he was riding piggyback where he gently rocked side to side with her stride.

As I watched them, I thought to myself, “What a devoted mother. She will have her offspring clinging to her back for about a year.”

Anteaters are the most unusual-looking animals I have ever seen.
