Penguins in a Wondrous Place – Part 2
- as seen by -
Paul Israelson
Gentoo penguin chicks (Pygoscelis papua) had recently hatched in this penguin rookery in Antarctica.
While photographing them, I tried to include all the chicks germane to each parent or set of parents in their nests made of stone. This image of a parent and chick beak-to-beak involved one of two chicks and one of two parents. I found their behavior emotionally moving and captured the moment.
Visiting this portion of the globe helps us understand how we live our lives has a global impact. Let’s work to keep it pristine and safe for Antarctica’s wildlife inhabitants.
EDITOR’S NOTE: This photo was chosen as one of the top submissions for Wild View’s Art in Nature assignment. Congratulations! Read Penguins in a Wondrous Place, Part 1 here.
